Wood Damage
Termites cause extensive damage to wood as they create tunnels while they feed on the wood. These tunnels are called galleries and follow the grain of the wood. Soft springwood is eaten away, leaving the hard, heartwood intact. A mere visual check for wood damage will not be enough. As we have said, the termites have to remain hidden in order to survive. As a result, termite damaged wood may show no sign of damage since the termites will leave a thin veneer of wood over their galleries. The wood is most likely to be damaged as if it comes into contact with soil.
